Neighborhood watch signThe first Morro Bay Neighborhood Watch group was established in 1982.  Today, there area approximately 85 block captains serving as liaisons between the Police Department and neighborhood groups, businesses, and the marina.  Groups receive information on how to be safe in their homes and cars, at work and at school.  Residents are trained to recognize and report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.

Neighbors watching out for each other and working with the Police Department and the City to reduce crime is the foundation of Neighborhood Watch.  An active Neighborhood Watch group can effect changes through their local officials and make Morro Bay an even safer community.  Reports from Morro Bay residents have resulted in arrests for selling drugs, and in decreased graffiti.  This assistance has helped the Police Department ensure that Morro Bay remains a great place to live and visit.

This nonprofit organization requires no dues, and asks only that people practice crime prevention skills.  We have both basic and specialized programs to meet the needs of all Morro Bay Residents. Through working with Neighborhood Watch, residents can gain a greater sense of security, responsibility, and control of the neighborhoods in which they live.
