Basic
Programs
We have crime prevention and safety programs for everyone. Basic
programs include block captains hosting
"block meetings" in their homes, where Police Department
staff are invited to give presentations and provide crime prevention
information.
Training for neighborhood groups:
Neighbors watching out for each other and working with the Police
Department and the City to reduce crime is the foundation of Neighborhood
Watch. Groups receive information on how to be safe in their
homes and cars, at work, and at school. Residents are trained to recognize
and report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
An active Neighborhood Watch group can effect changes through
their local officials, and make Morro Bay an even safer community. Reports
from Morro Bay residents have resulted in arrests for selling drugs,
decreased graffiti activity, and safer streets. You can form
your own Neighborhood Watch group.
Home security surveys:
The Crime Prevention Coordinator goes to residents' homes to
identify security issues and suggest possible solutions.
Presentations to local groups:
On request, the Morro Bay Crime Prevention Unit gives presentations
to local community groups and service organizations.
The Morro Bay Crime Prevention Unit hosts monthly information meetings
in the evening. Business and citizen groups attend the meetings
for updates and crime prevention education. These monthly informational
meetings are now being telecast on local Morro Bay Community Cable
Channel 20. This series of broadcasts provides citizens with
prevention and preparedness information that they can access from the
comfort of their own homes.
Boris the Bad Guy
The Boris the Bad Guy Campaign is an outreach program that targets
all segments of the Morro Bay population. Its goals are to establish
a communication network to help notify residents in cases of emergency,
and to educate community members of safety concerns, and what actions
are to be taken in case such situations arise. This community
outreach program is bult from information provided by you, as part
of Neighborhood Watch. The register of names obtained from the
E-Bulletin mailing list and the neighborhood signup lists are the foundation
of the community network. The goals of the E-Bulletin are to
keep you informed of current events and important information.
Important features of the campaign include
flyers, to be distributed to the elementary school, posters for city-wide
distribution, and the E-Bulletin to keep residents informed.
Specialized
Programs
In addition to our basic programs aimed at
all Morro Bay residents, we also have specialized crime prevention
and safety programs for
